National Tree Day at Yarran Dheran
Thirty-eight volunteers, two hundred plants, and one very welcome sausage sizzle.
On Sunday 26 July, thirty-eight volunteers joined us at Yarran Dheran for National Tree Day - and made short work of getting 200 new plants into the ground.
Once the planting was done, the group turned to weeding, watering and mulching, giving the new plants the best possible start through the rest of winter. It's the follow-up work that decides whether a planting day actually succeeds, and this one was well and truly covered.
What made the morning especially good was who turned up. Committee members, Friends of Yarran Dheran, and people from the wider local community all worked side by side - a good sign for the Reserve, and for the habitat we're steadily rebuilding here for our wildlife.
The work finished the way these mornings should: a sausage sizzle, a cup of tea, and a decent chat.
