About Yarran Dheran
A treasured pocket of native bushland in the Mullum Mullum Valley, cared for by a passionate team of community volunteers in partnership with the City of Whitehorse.
About the Advisory Committee
The Yarran Dheran Advisory Committee is an energetic and enthusiastic team of community volunteers, appointed by the City of Whitehorse to provide practical support and advice to Council on managing the reserve. Working hand-in-hand with Council, our role as volunteers is to care for, maintain, and enrich this precious 7-hectare bushland reserve in the Mullum Mullum Valley, protecting and enhancing its biodiversity and fostering community understanding and appreciation of its environmental, recreational, social, educational, spiritual and cultural values.
Community members, students and nature lovers of all kinds are welcome to volunteer or join the Friends Group that undertakes monthly working bees.
Every Sunday, you'll find our dedicated volunteers hosting the Information Centre to introduce visitors to the reserve, to assist with identification of species, and to provide information about environmental activities and learning opportunities.
Connecting the Community with the Reserve
Beyond maintaining the ecological values of Yarran Dheran and the habitat that supports its wildlife, we also nurture and encourage public connection. We do this not only by offering events, guided walks, and citizen science initiatives like WaterWatch and wildlife surveys, but also through encouraging visitors to value the reserve.
Citizen Science
Take part in WaterWatch, wildlife surveys, and other citizen science initiatives that build long-term ecological data for the reserve.
Record Your Sightings
Contribute to our long-standing local sightings program, or record observations on iNaturalist using the Yarran Dheran Biodiversity project.
Helping Care for the Reserve
Visitors can help us care for the reserve and the wildlife that calls it home. Here's how.
Tread Lightly
Please don't pick flowers, remove plants or leave litter. The reserve's biodiversity depends on every visitor leaving it as they found it.
Report Vandalism or Rubbish
Spotted dumping or damage? The easiest way to report it is the Snap, Send, Solve app.
Injured Wildlife
If you find injured wildlife, please contact a Wildlife Rescue organisation. Contact details are on our FAQ page.
