Join us for a guided nocturnal wildlife walk in Yarran Dheran, led by Ian Moodie, well-known local environmentalist and experienced walk leader. Using red light torches, we will explore the Mullum Mullum Valley and look for its diverse and fascinating nocturnal wildlife.
Common Ringtail Possums, Common Brushtail Possums, Sugar Gliders, microbats, eels, Australasian Nightjars, and Tawny Frogmouths all call Yarran Dheran home. These creatures are all active at night. While possums live principally on leaves of eucalypts, tea-trees, paperbarks and wattles and some flowers and fruit, the diet of sugar gliders includes invertebrates, nectar, pollen or sugar exudates on leaves and bark. We sometimes see short-finned eels in the Mullum Mullum Creek as well.
This event is hosted by the Yarran Dheran Advisory Committee. Enter via the Ashburton Drive entrance and walk through the car park to meet at the Visitor Centre. The walk is not suitable for very young children or prams. Please wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and enclosed shoes.
The event will be cancelled in the case of adverse weather.
