Wattle Day is traditionally celebrated in Australia early in Spring. Yarran Dheran is described as a hot spot for wattle diversity and its name is believed to have been derived from the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung language meaning Wattle Gully. Nearly all of the 30 species of wattle (including sub-species) that are listed as indigenous for Melbourne can be found in Yarran Dheran.
This session is led by Mart Hagel and is designed to help visitors understand, identify, and appreciate wattles in early Spring. The session is of two hours duration and begins with a presentation at the Information Centre, followed by a short walk near the Centre.

Growing your own wattles
Children are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Bring your camera or smart phone, a pocket magnifier and/or reading glasses, and a notebook and pen.
