πŸ¦‡ Who Lives in the Hollows?

  • Yarran Dheran Nature Reserve 1A Ashburton Drive Mitcham, VIC, 3132 Australia (map)

Tree hollows are essential for wildlife, providing refuge from weather and predators, and safe sites for roosting and breeding. Only old trees develop hollows, forming over 100 years through the loss of limbs and natural forces such as wind, heat, fire, lightning, rain, and insect or fungal activity. Wildlife may also renovate and adapt hollows using beaks, teeth, and claws to suit their needs.

Join Ian Moodie, well-known local environmentalist, for a fascinating walk around Yarran Dheran. Explore a variety of natural and artificial hollows and learn what factors influence how often and by which species a hollow is used.

Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and enclosed shoes.
